As he was doing this Jon noted an obvious look of embarrassment cross Aide Fraizer's attractive face. ~What was she suddenly so self-conscious about,~ Jon wondered, as Brianna Frazier replied. "Actually Jon, I believe the Lieutenant also has reason to speak with us about some security concerns he has." Jon was surprised, but not unhappy, that Aide Frazier had used his first name rather his rank or professional title. "Isn't that right, Lieutenant?" Brianna said with a flick of her red curls to Lt. Trinin. "I'm sure we'll have time to discuss both," she said with her head turned, smiling personally directed at him. ~She's playing us back and forth like we're a ball in a tennis game Great Spirit,~ Jon observed and was not totally sure if he like being regarded that way or not "That is fine with me, Ms, Frazier," Jon replied genuinely. "I just want to know how to best direct our resources for the success of our mission." (Reply Baylon Trinin, Brianna Frazier) "I am looking forward being a liaison between Hades Security and its ambassadorial Romulan delegation. To that end I have spent the last several days studying actual historical visual images of the Romulans in order to familiarize myself with both their language and how their language correlates with auras I see while looking at their recorded images. I feel that I have been fairly successful in this regard. Hopefully, I will be able to determine whether or not the Romulan delegates we negotiate with will say words that mirror their real intentions." (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, CSEC's Office - CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin - 1212) Baylon was glad to see the Chief Counselor relaxed enough to have a drink, although he had hoped that Frazier would be just as relaxed. It seemed she still had a head for decorum and isn't entirely relaxed. He allowed himself to cheat a bit and began to pick up on the subtle emotional states of the two people in the room. It was a completely passive reading and one that wouldn't bother anyone in the room should they ask him about it. ~ Or so he hoped. "That would be fine with me. I find Andorian stimulants tasty and exhilarating. " Jon replied. “Oh no, not for me thank you Mister Trinin. I think if I have a drink so early in the day it’ll go straight to my head.” the redhead said then proceeded to play with a stray curl of her hair. Baylon raised a single eyebrow at her actions then replicated a pair of small rocks glass with ice. He poured two-fingers of the clear Andorian Whiskey in each of the glasses and handed one to the Counselor. Jon sipped his drink as did Baylon. He smiled and was about to say something when Jon decided to share first. “We came by to discuss whether or not it would be appropriate to use telepathy as a means of subtle conversation if either I or Miss Frazier detected any kind of false hood or harmful intent on the part of the Romulan delegates. Telepathy would be on our side only as a way of communication with no attempt to probe or read the Romulans minds or attempt to influence their thoughts or behaviors.” Baylon nodded. “Actually Jon,” started Bree, “I believe the Lieutenant also has reason to speak with us about some security concerns he has,” She then looked back to Lieutenant Trinin with a flick of her red curls, “Isn’t that right Lieutenant?” "Yes that's right Miss Frazier." he conceded. “I’m sure we’ll have time to discuss both.” She hastily added. "That is fine with me, Ms, Frazier," Jon replied genuinely. "I just want to know how to best direct our resources for the success of our mission." Baylon picked up on a subtle sense of uneasiness emanating from Jon. Although the Security Chief couldn't say for certain, he suspected that Jon was felling a little unhappy with Frazier's attempts to introduce her feminine charms into the meeting. Baylon suspected that her sexuality was one of the mainstays of her skill at the diplomatic table. Sometimes a gesture, or implied promise of innuendo was a potent tool at the negotiating table. "Why don't we start with some straight forward disclosure. First Miss Frazier I think it's important that you know that I have asked Mister Nayati to act as a security Liaison between the delegation and my own. I've found it's always easier if everyone has a single go to person in events like these." Jon smiled and added, "I am looking forward being a liaison between Hades Security and its ambassadorial Romulan delegation. To that end I have spent the last several days studying actual historical visual images of the Romulans in order to familiarize myself with both their language and how their language correlates with auras I see while looking at their recorded images. I feel that I have been fairly successful in this regard. Hopefully, I will be able to determine whether or not the Romulan delegates we negotiate with will say words that mirror their real intentions." "… Or whether there is a bigger plot involved here, or an ulterior motive." Baylon added. "More specifically, whether there is any immediate discernable danger to our delegation, to your Romulan counterparts or to the Hades ship or crew." Baylon smiled. "In that regards, I have been looking over your dossiers, or at least what I have access to, and I am therefore aware of your service record. I know that you held the Rank of Lieutenant Commander in Star Fleet before your discharge. I also know that you took command of the USS Champlain, after a surprise attack left her more senior command crew incapacitated or dead." He paused for a moment. "That means that you understand the hazards that we are facing here all too well. It also means that you understand my duty and responsibility to my crewmates, and that means being informed so that I can do my job so that everyone comes home when this is all over." He took another sip of his whiskey and looked at Jon, then back at Frazier. "I'd like for your to help me facilitate a means to keep track of the ambassador and the other members of the federation delegation without their knowledge. More specifically, I will have several small micro patch transponders available for use very shortly. I need you to help me plant them on the delegates clothing." He glanced at Nayati. " Understand this is entirely a means to help us know where the delegation is at all times, so that we can transport them or send a hostage rescue team to their direct location at a moment's notice. I want the others to be ignorant of this plan because what they don't know they can not inadvertently divulge. And I know that you would never betray them. I can see it in your record. Correct me if I'm wrong or if I crossed the line." (reply Frazier) "The other aspect is of course that I suspect the Romulans enough to believe they could easily plant a spy either on this ship or in the delegation itself. Have either of you noticed anything unusual that might help us in that regard?" (reply Nayati, Frazier) "Interesting. As for the use of telepathy. You are more than welcomed to use it with me as needed. I give you my permission." He had taken the time to stop and pick up fresh flowers from one of his botanist friends. They weren't roses, but he thought she might enjoy the gesture. She must have been sitting there forever! He jogged over to her table and presented her with the flowers as a child might present his latest craft to his mother. He smiled at her around them and could feel the colour rising in his cheeks. "Ana, you look-" he trailed off as he clumsily pulled out a chair to level himself with her. Why was he so awkward today? He had never been like this around her before today. He shook his head, "you look great." (reply Ana) Maybe it had just been far too long. Their adventure to Bajor had been short and her departure had been awkward... at least for him... (reply Ana iyw) "Arston said he would really like to meet you." Kusto smiled again. "I wanted you to meet him too. One day when this mess is over, you and I are actually going to get away and I promise I will show you Bajora. It's a beautiful place." It was less sterile and more inviting than the Boudicca's Dreamplane had been. The stars raced by overhead, in a vast array of colors since the ship was traveling at warp speed. It was spectacular. The two of them walked along the dark plane, lit from above with soft ambient light from the stars streaming by overhead. The plane around them was strewn with parts of equipment and large lumps of metal. Nearby was a large blue tube pulsing with light, probably signifying the warp engines. The two walked and spoke together. ::I never get tired of seeing the stars this way, Elder Parent. Though they are beautiful in the physical world when viewed from Ten Forward, somehow the effect is not the same.:: ::Yes, Child of Mine, the effect of a vast array of a towering ceiling of streaming stars over us is infinitely more exciting to see. I too think the view from Ten Forward leaves much to be desired by comparison.:: Abruptly in the middle distance was a loud crack and part of the ship Dreamplane exploded. The ground underneath them shuddered and twisted. Shayhiloosh and Shureshlee watched, horrified. ::I think the ship could be under some sort of attack, though I see no obvious invaders,:: sent Shayhiloosh. ::We better come out of the Dreamplane, Shureshlee. The ship may need us and you cannot be endangered any more than can be helped.;; ::But Elder Parent, I could render assistance to the crew and help to repair the ship's systems,:: objected Shureshlee. ::You may be very helpful in Sickbay. I am sure that the doctors and nursing teams might need your help to pick people up and carefully place them on biobeds or to pass them instruments. You would be safer there and I would not have the added burden of worry for your immediate wellbeing.:: ::Yes Elder Parent,:: responded Shureshlee. ::We better get going.:: (Posted by Sheila Mayer) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 14, Main Engineering – CEO Norman Harper- 2015) Norm leaned over a flickering console. They all seemed to be doing it now, and had he not the role as Chief Engineer in keeping the Engines in top shape (well, as top as possible) he would easily have gong through the wiring enough to clear the picture until later. But, he resigned himself to doing things properly, as was his duty. Though today was definately a bigger mess than the day before, Norm's foul mood had cleaned up just like a cloudy day. He could, if need be, conjur a smile, and he had made it his personal mission to make sure Henri Croix was properly appologised to. He liked the Frenchman, but Henri did like to talk a lot! He thumped his fist into the side of the console as though it would solve all of his troubles. In actual fact, it shook the internal network of the console just enough to shut it down all together. He nodded in the direction of a nearby engineer, "Daniels, would you get wake this thing up fer me?" The engineer nodded, "Just a minute, sir." Norm moved on to the next station. “Chief Harper, have you seen these readings?” Norm recognised the voice of Debby Weston and altered course for her direction. "Show me," he said simply as he came to stand just behind her. Before Debbie opened her mouth to speak, a hearty rumble generated from deep coming from the console he had just left. He turned on his toes accompanied with the sound of the face of the access panel bursting from its home. Norm cursed, took an instinctive step in that direction, but stopped upon seeing several of crewmen attending to the flames caused by the shorting circuts. “I’m reading a hull breech on deck 5, caused by a rupture in the primary EPS conduit in section six-gamma. Power to the entire Hades section has been compromised.” Norm couldn't place the voice baring the information, but he did catch himself uttering a few choice swear words before he caught himself. “Hey!” interrupted the engineer standing at the console where Debbie had previously been working. He bent over to look over Weston's shoulder at the warnings flashing on the display. The readings monitoring the plasma flow to and from the warp nacelles were beginning to spike. “Boss, I’m reading some dangerous readings in the plasma flow manifolds. It looks like that rupture has caused some kind of feedback pulse in the flow system and it’s heading toward the primary reaction chamber.” Debbie turned to him quickly. "Take it away," Norm granted, taking a quick step away from the console to allow Debbie the room she needed to move properly. "Do what you can to stop the pulse. Take whomever you need, Weston." He looked up for the two men he usually turned to in times of emergency, "Nerrah, Croix!" he called into the Engines. The Bajoran, being closest arrived first and saluted just before the Frenchman jogged into place beside him. "I need you two to make sure the deflector shields are up to par on all systems leading directly to the core. Anything that looks hogey to you, scrap it. Dead engines means a dead ship." He knew he didn't need to say it. Every engineer knew it, but it was always good to add the desperation into an order now and again. He unhooked his nihileration driver from his belt. The idea in his head would probably prove an unlikely solution, but he hoped that by sending a power surge in the opposite direction, he might slow the flux, if not halt it in its tracks. (posted by Jo) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 14, Main Engineering – CEO Norman Harper– 2017) Norm kicked at the air to give himself extra power to pull himself up into the Jefferies tube. His heart was pounding in his ears as he trust his nihileration driver into an open socket. He knew that the smallest error in calculation would send an enormous amount of electicity through his body simultaniously, leaving his body a cinder and his life a loss. But, he banished the thought to the back of his head. He needed his wits about him! His fingers moved fast to relay the power generators for the lower deck replicators into the small device he held in his hands. It couldn't, however, stay there long, if he didn't want a full scale explosion within the engines. So, he moved quickly to connect the driver to the flow system aimed away from the power core. He concentrated so completely on the task at hand that he forgot to blink and made no move to breathe. Somewhere an instinct told him to pray, but he ignored it. He could pray when he the engines were safe, now he needed every inch of his brainpower. There was not enough conductor in the driver to properly relay the power of the replicators and the small red warning light began to flash from the back to the device into Norm's eyes. He cursed, his heart lept and his stomach began to tie itself in knots that he knew would end up in vomit. His fingers moved fast again, but the warning light continued to burn into his eyes. He had half a mind to jump out of the tube and yell at his engineers to run, but where would they go in such a short amount of time? The time to hesitate was long past, and he knew, with a stomach wrenching dread what he must do. He swallowed against the idea of the pain even as he unhooked the sharpest instrument from his belt and shoved it unceremoniously into his left knee. It may have been comprised mostly of machine parts, but the blood that seeped through his pants and the pain that shot up and down his leg in both directions were both quite organic. He didn’t fight the cry of agony as he tore both cloth and flesh to expose the metallic joint within his leg. The best, yet most primitive tools he had now were his fingers, and though he had to brace the nahileration driver, he was able to swing his other hand around to take hold of the pin that kept the two pieces of his cybernetics together. He braced himself, biting down on his jacket collar to keep himself from biting off his tongue and jiggled the pin free of the leg. Held together by sinues and muscle, his leg lay limp and useless as he thrust the bloody pin in to the socket beside the driver. The red light died away, the power drained from the replicators to pulse through the circuts to compat the flux and Norm pushed himself with his remaining strength out of the Jefferies tube to collapse on the floor and lose consciousness. (posted by Jo) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 14, Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Mattrim Thomas - 2018) Mattrim whistled a little, thinking of the amount of time he'd had to spend with Debbie lately. Granted, most of the time had been work related, but still, he managed to find the positive in it all. He was with Debbie, and that was what made him smile. Of course now, he was stuck doing some maintenance on the plasma manifolds. The good news was that from the right angle he could still see Debbie's legs. It certainly seemed that his luck was beginning to change. Not only had he managed to go a couple of days without getting injured, or requiring a trip to sick bay, he also was beginning to believe that his jinx with women was over. He had certainly earned his reputation as his graduating classes virgin. In his entire stay at the academy he was not able to muster up the nerve, or the opportunity, to even have a date. Thomas had come to the conclusion that he would probably die a lonely old man. But now things were looking up. Suddenly there were some alarms, and he could hear Debbie's voice. It sounded as though she were concerned about something, and then he heard Harpers voice. The CEO could be a bit surly, but he certainly knew his stuff. So when he had been ordered to do the maintenance on the manifolds he didn't say anything. After all, he was the new guy, even if he did outrank Debbie, technically. Slowly Mattrim turned and took a step towards the voices. He looked around, before he took a second step, and noticed the gauges. They were starting to hit a red zone. That must have been what they'd been talking about. He had to warn them, but there was no time. By the time he said anything there would and explosion and plasma leakage that would devour all of them. He heard Harper say something about the Jeffries tube and then he disappeared. The power build up was increasing and Mattrim knew what had to be done. There was only one way to disrupt the flow of that much energy. He looked down at his prosthetic hand, and smiled. It had been a long time friend, but fortunately Debbie had already designed a new one. A better one. Something had happened, and he realized that Harper must have been successful in releasing the pressure of the power build up. Of course that meant that power was now running towards the already blocked manifold. Mattrim moved over to an access hatch, making sure that the force field was in tact and opened it. Squinting he could see where the regulator for the plasma flow had stuck. He took a deep breath and quickly reached into the manifold and took hold of the regulator with his prosthetic. The pain that shot through his body was beyond belief. He could feel his attached neurons and the outlaying cells of his organic body start to deteriorate almost immediately. With a cry of effort Thomas physically opened the regulator to full just as a surge of power went along the plasma flow. The surge ran through the plasma and up his prosthetic, as though it were a lightning rod. The power surge hit him like a freight train, throwing him back against the bulk head with sickeningly dull thud of pulverizing bones. He managed to turn his broken neck enough to get a final glimpse of Debbie, before he began to slide to the floor. He was not able to smile, but he realized the irony of the situation. Just when things were starting to look so good. He should have known better. By the time Mattrim Thomas' body his the floor his heart had already stopped and his brain had stopped receiving any impulses. He was dead. Tom suddenly realized he had way overstepped his freedom of action. He was really in the poop - he had also by-passed Jonas and asked Maraht if he could handle things. Sighing and blushing a bright red, Jackson told Jonas "Understood Commander" and waited to be told what the FO wanted done next. Commander Lemar went on to order Jackson to " I want you LT Jackson to take the turbo lift shaft to deck 2. Also, Assemble a team with whomever you find there and head to deck 5". Jackson nodded and headed off to execute his instructions. Making a short stop before entering the turbo-lift shat Tom grabbed a basic tool kit. Tom slowly worked his way to the access ladders after getting assistance from an Engineering Ensign to force open the turbo shaft door. (In between Decks 1 and 2 - Central Turbo Shaft) ~Man oh Man . I sure hope the turbo lift stays broken~ Jackson thought as he worked hand over hand to the access ladder. Getting smashed was not one of the many things Tom wanted to have happen to himself. His fear of heights kicked in and he forced himself to not look up or down. Jackson took it a step at a time. T.J managed to make the ledge near the exit form the shaft area - After much effort, Jackson managed to force the door open. He stepped out into the corridor and collapsed to his knees, gasping for breath. Ammon Ranae - 2028) Baylon relayed to Ranae what his security people would be doing under the circumstances. He also told her that scenario Echo was most likely being carried out and asked her to give the commander this information. ::Wilco, love.:: ::Oh, and dearest, please tell the team to hurry, it's starting to get very chilly in here and I seem to have left my arctic gear in my quarters.:: :: I had better do that right now then, because from what I'm hearing they're about to leave. I'll be right back darling.:: Ranae told Baylon and then turned to the FO. "Sir, Lt. Trinin has contacted me telepathically and requires immediate assistance. He is trapped in his office with just a forcefield between him and space. He says he is slightly injured, but he does tend to downplay stuff like that. He says it is getting uncomfortably cold in there as well. He also wishes me to inform you that Ensign T'Sol should be coming to the Bridge and Lieutenant Tarus should be locating and securing the Delegation. Also, command will likely be transferred to Main Engineering if communications are down, per scenario Echo and that there is an encrypted passkey to allow you to communicate that all is well with Lieutenant Harper." (posted by Sal) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 14, Main Engineering - CEO Norman Harper - 2028) Norm was leaning his weight against the bulkhead, fighting the lightness in his head. Nerrah Kusto, using his experiences from the Bajoran Resistance had dragged Norm away from the Jefferies Tube to the wall, where he propped up his head and tore strips in his shirt to create bandages for his leg. The replicators were down, so getting cold water was an impossibility, but Nerrah had managed to conjure a luke-warm glass from somewhere and poured it down the CEO's throat. Norm was thankful for the engineer's craftiness, and was beginning to regret his hastey action in the tube. He was sure, now that the immediate danger was out of the way that there were better ways to get done what needed to be done. A million ideas poured through his head... now. "Chief," Debbie interrupted his self-chastisement, "the umbilical systems just aren't getting any power from the main core. That EPS conduit on deck 5 was the main link from the main core to the saucer engineering section. That's why the entire Hades section is down and out for the count." Norm looked up, shook his head to straighten his vision and nodded, "Tap into the auxilariy power circuts. See if we can get the power through manually." Hey!" she called at the console, "I can't access auxiliary power from here. The EPS blow out seems to have affected all computer and data access too." "Might have something to do with the gaping hole in our side," Travis piped up. Norm winced and groaned, as the red alert klaxons began the blare in his ears. ~What now!?~ "I thought the Bridge was off line?" questioned a nearby crewman. "It is." Debbie answered, "The call for alert came from... Ensign T'Sol, a security officer." "Doesn't the Saucer section have its own core?" Debbie returned to the issue at hand. "If we can bring it online, we can bypass this section here and restore power to the majority of the Hades section." She around to look at Norm, "Deck 5 will probably still be out in most places, but at least we can get part way there." Norm nodded, "There should still be emergency generators anyway, for vital systems. Life support..." Before Norm could complete his thought, the engineering doors swooshed open and in ran a panting Tellerite officer. "Lieutenant Harper..." he started, trying to catch his breath. "I have orders from Ensign T'Sol to let you know we've lost contact with the bridge." "We already knew that Grol," started Debbie to herself, recognising the security officer and continuing her work. Norm nodded, indicating that Debbie stated it as best he could, "We're attempting to redirect the connections from the cores to the ship. With a little luck," he paused to take in a breath to steady his voice, "the communications systems will be back online soon." He shifted his weight. "Where is T'sol?" He asked, unsure, and uncaring if the inquiry sounded rude. Trinin has contacted me telepathically and requires immediate assistance...” ~Telepathically~ thought Jonas, often forgetting that there were actually quite a few telepaths onboard. Most ships had one, maybe even two as part of their crew, but the Hades must have had somewhere in the realms of ten in total. He was certain it was an intention, and was an occurrence only due to random circumstances. Ultimately, it was good to hear that his chief of security was alive and for the most part, he was well. “...He is trapped in his office with just a forcefield between him and space. He says he is slightly injured, but he does tend to downplay stuff like that...” said Ammon with a familiarity that could only come with intimate knowledge of the man. “...He says it is getting uncomfortably cold in there as well. He also wishes me to inform you that Ensign T'Sol should be coming to the Bridge and Lieutenant Tarus should be locating and securing the Delegation. Also, command will likely be transferred to Main Engineering if communications are down, per scenario Echo and that there is an encrypted passkey to allow you to communicate that all is well with Lieutenant Harper.” With a nod, Jonas turned away from the Lieutenant and back to team currently making their way off the bridge, “If you can, see if you can get down to the security section. It sounds like Lieutenant Trinin is in dire need of our assistance if we can provide it.” Jonas turned back to his command interface and wondered how it would be possible for him to communicate with Harper to give him the passkey. It was a good plan to have control of the ship transferred away from the bridge, but the last thing he needed was security to storm the bridge with the mistaken idea that they had been boarded and overrun. With that, he turned his thoughts to that of the security teams. "See if you can rescue Lt Trinin. He's in his office in the Security Center. He's protected from space only by a thin force field" Jonas informed the team. Jackson replied for the others "Aye, Aye Commnader" and set off , with the others, to rescue their crewmate. The three worked their way slowly to the ladders each turbo shaft contained and headed downawrad. Debbie could hardly blame him considering what he had just experienced. It seemed that having a prosthetic limb was both a blessing and a curse for an engineer. Super strength when you need it, but in a emergency you have to hurt like hell to save the day. Then her eyes drifted briefly toward Matt Thomas, who hadn’t been so lucky as Harper. It had been almost as if the CEO and ACEO were on the same wave length, both having similar ideas to save the ship. Truth was, if they hadn’t both tried to play their parts, the engines might not now be as safe and sound as they were. Matt had paid the highest possible price for that, and now he was no longer breathing. Pushing the thought out of her head, she knew she had a job to do. The rest of the ship was in danger and there were countless other lives at stake. She couldn’t do anything about Matt now, and she wasn’t about to start getting soft now. “Ensign T’Sol is on her way to the bridge. She’s likely somewhere between decks 5 and 2 by now.” The Tellarite wasn’t really sure what else he could say, so he asked, “Can I do anything?” Debbie saw the look on Harper’s face and decided to jump in and save the security officer a mouthful of scorn. “Just contact sickbay and get a team down here A-SAP.” With that, she turned back to her console. She was still trying her best to route commands through to the auxiliary generators and the secondary core on decks 4 and 5, but her console was still giving her the negative tone. ~Computer says...No~ she thought with a sigh, then shook her head and turned to Dana Travis. “Any luck?” she asked, half hoping for success, half expecting defeat. Travis tapped at her controls for just a few minutes longer before she too shook her head and looked up, “Sorry Deb’s. It’s having none of it.” Looking around to the chief, Debbie saw him looking a little blurry eyed, as if he was struggling to force back the pain and maintain consciousness. ~Great, the chief is as good as gone~ and then she looked around, looking for another officer that might be in charge. The CEO and ACEO were both out of action, who was left to take charge? With a shrug, Debbie decided to take the bull by the horns. Hell, she wasn’t an officer, but she wasn’t about to start around and wait for one to have the balls to stand up and take some action. She stepped away from her console and said, “Travis, get your pack. Turner, you’re with me. Get your stuff, we’re moving out.” As she moved away from her console she grabbed her toolkit and started toward the door. She approached Harper, then seeing he was in no state to listen, she turned to see Nerrah Kusto nearby. “Kusto,” she started by getting his attention, “I’m heading to the saucer section engineering. Look after the chief, OK?” (reply: Kusto IYW) Not really giving Kusto a chance to confirm or deny her plans, she headed out of the door, two other engineers in tow. Carrow said, "but I doubt this was an overt attack of the Romulans. There's neither a boarding party aboard nor are we in smithereens. Perhaps a delaying tactic of arrival, at best, but most likely a faction that is trying to create troubles to prevent the alliance of Federation and the Star Empire. I'm no engineer, but I would look to our enemies who like to use plasma bombs." As Lt. Carrow spoke her mind in response to his whispered conversation with FO Lemar and the commander sided with her, Jon experienced the taste of crow and ash in his mouth. ~I did my job to warn FO Lemar, and my council was killed. I can do no more now,~ Jon thought with a dull ache, and a twinge of despair, which he was now thankful that there were no other NCRII true sighted Wise Man to see. ~At least we can arm ourselves. But how would Lt. Carrow know the present disaster was caused by a plasma bomb?~ Jon wondered. He resolved to watch her carefully. Jon let out a long, slow cleansing breath as Lt. Carrow asked Lamar, "What can I do to assist, sir?" Lt. Carrow's question got Jon's mind back on task as FO Lemar again spoke to him. "You and Counselor Nayati go with Lieutenant Jackson. While he tries to work on some repairs, I want you two to see if you can locate the Captain. He was somewhere on Deck 5 when all of this went down." Jon responded quickly, "Of course Commander Lamar." Moving quickly, Jon stepped to the main Bridge's weapon locker, keyed it open and withdrew a several standard hand phasers and a couple of extra power cells. Jon said, "Better to have a weapon and not need it than to need a weapon and not have it." He then offered phasers to both Lt. Carrow and took another for Lt. Jackson struggling at the turbolift. (Reply Ardena Carrow, Tom Jackson, Any) "Shall we go, Sirs?" Jon said, as he stepped toward Jackson who was struggling with the uncooperative turbolift. He says he is slightly injured, but he does tend to downplay stuff like that. He says it is getting uncomfortably cold in there as well. He also wishes me to inform you that Ensign T'Sol should be coming to the Bridge and Lieutenant Tarus should be locating and securing the Delegation. Also, command will likely be transferred to Main Engineering if communications are down, per scenario Echo and that there is an encrypted passkey to allow you to communicate that all is well with Lieutenant Harper." He handed the CSO the small handlight. Jon had just handed Lt. Jackson and Lt. Carrow a phaser each when he heard FO Lemar address all of them from behind. "If you can, see if you can get down to the security section. It sounds like Lieutenant Trinin is in dire need of our assistance if we can provide it." ~Looks like our mission to rescue Captain Sash and Ambassador Nolan has been reprioritized, which is Ok since Lt. Tarus has been assigned to securing the delegation.~ "Aye aye Commander," Lt. Jackson said. Since ACOPS was the senior officer in charge, Jon nodded in silent affirmation and then followed him down the turbolift shaft ladder. It was dark, slippery and cold. Jon said, "I like dark narrow spaces. It reminds me of some of the tighter warrens of home." ~I hope the turbolift doesn't become functional unexpectedly or we will all be embarrassed, though only for a very short time…..before we die,~ Jon chuckled quietly to himself with dark humor. "Lt. Jackson, how about we get to the next deck and get out of this shaft? If the turbolift is reactivated, its presence could terminate our chances of success." (Reply Tom Jackson, Ardena Carrow, Any) As Jon descended the shaft, he remembered that each turbolift had an escape hatch on the top. That fact helped to relieve Jon's apprehension a little. He seemed to be in much better shape than her, all around! Ardena was concentrating on putting each foot on a rung and not letting go of the rung before her hand had a firm grasp. It seemed like there wasn't quite enough oxygen in the lift. "Wishing I'd thought to learn the schematics of the ship so I'd know when Tom is letting us out of here." She replied, trying to give a good humoured smile, but probably just looking more tired. Agreeing to this mission may not have been one of her more brilliant ideas! Security often prevented direct access routes to the bridge outside of the turbolifts. Protected the elite crew most of the time, but in times of emergency, what a pain. Some ships only had a one deck break in their access routes, some had several. Ardena feverantly hoped that this was a one deck ship! Jon felt a surge of empathy toward Ardena. ~ Even half-Vulcans must be used to brighter than normal earth illumination, Great Spirit, not like this absence of light, which is like a second home to me.~ "You're doing fine Lt. They had clambered over a few wrecked areas of the corridor, but the most part everything had been intact. “Substandard construction materials for us admin folks” Jason had commented. Lebranski had responded with some equally, if not more sarcastic remark that had caused Jason to laugh. He liked her a lot – her attitude toward life was a lot more relaxed than he was used to and it was refreshing. As the two Yeoman rounded a corner they were nearly run over by Lieutenant Jackson as he emerged looking around in all directions. “Ahh, Friendly faces!!” he has called out as he noticed them both. “Yes, friendly but dirty,” said Jason with a smile and looked over at Denise. (reply: Lebranski IYW) “What is the status of things at this level?” asked the Lieutenant, curious about what they had seen so far. Jason shrugged and said, “Everywhere is pretty much the same as here - without power or communications, only emergency lighting, and a lot of confused crewmen.” Jason banged at the bulkhead, which appeared still to be in place, “Most of the place is still intact, although Denise’s office could do with a spring clean now.” He turned around and smiled at Lebranski. "Shouldn't a telepath go with each team?" Denise blurted, then realizing she had several officers looking at her. "I was just thinking.. easier to find the people.." she trailed off. "I can't sense the Captain." Ardena explained. She looked to Jon, "You're a lot more familiar with he and the Ambassasdor, can you?" (Reply Nayati) "Maybe Jon," She hoped he'd forgive the familiarity, but be damned if she was ranking someone who had stood between her and a sudden fall if she'd slipped, "could try and find the Captain and Tom and I will go help the security chief? (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 5, Corridor - ACMO Ensign R'Serrot - 2035) When it all started R'Serrot had been in his quarters. As the NDOS (new doc on schedule) is was right to expect himself to be put on the Gamma shift. It did mean that he would have contact with both Wendy and the CMO, Angeni. Although this woman, Dr. Trommashere, had some unusual ideologies, including the use of archaic methods, it was also clear that she knew what she was doing, and that she was, indeed, the HDIC (head doc in charge). Ser was starting to prepare himself for his shift when... well... whatever happened, happened. There was clearly a shaking of the ship, as if something exploded, and then all power was goine. The comm system had gone out, and the computer was off line. The Caitian had not been happy to just sit in his quarters until somebody came along to tell him what was going on, or what to do, so he decided to manually open his door and see if he could help out. Ser's quarter's had been on deck 3, and he soon found his way down to deck 5. The access port that he had used had been blocked off on deck 4. When he came out, he found himself close to the VIP quarters. The shock of the devastation that he saw there was overwhelming. The Caitian had been on the McCoy during the war, and saw his fair share of destruction, but nothing this close... this personal. It was clear that what ever had happened, it had happened right here. Not only was a section of the ship missing, but support beams had fallen, and there was general debris all over. His nose twitched as his sensitive olfactory abilities picked up the familiar scent of blood... and death. Narrowing his eyes, he began to scan the wreckage for any sign of life... or death. He finally decided to follow his nose. Although a Caitian's sense of smell was stronger than that of many humanoids. However, it really was not an accurate method of devination. Still, it did give him a general sense of where to look. As the Caitian began to pick his way through the destruction he soon came across an arm. As he reached down to find the body it was attached to, the arm came free of the rubble, and R'Serrot found himself holding onto a disembodied arm. The surprise of the discovery caused him to drop the limb. A small shudder ran through his body, and his ears twitched as he pulled out his medical tricorder. Kneeling beside the arm, R'Serrot began to scan it. Clearly it was the arm of the Ambassador. Ser looked around do see if there were any signs of the rest of his body. Unfortunately, there were none readily visible. Ser continued to move the bits and pieces of the ship he could, until he soon came across something else. Something more solid. By now he was panting, but the discovery of a more solid body urged him to keep working. It didn't take much uncovering to discover that the body was that of Captain Sash. The doctor began to work more diligently as he continued to uncover more and more of the CO. Once he found the head, he slowed his pace. The captain was most assuredly unconscious and it was a good thing too. There was a metal bar that had completely impaled Sash through his chest. Once again, Ser broke out his tricorder and pointed it towards Sash. The good news was that the bar had gone all the way through his body, keep him from bleeding out. The bad news was that the bar had also gone through the captain's lung. It was amazing that the Angosian was still alive. But he was. Now all he needed was some help. Ser ran his paw over the CO's head and purred, "Hang onn Captain, help will be herre soon." =^= This is Commander Lemar to all personnel on Decks 1 through 9. Communications have been temporarily restored to the Hades section and both damage control and medical teams are being dispatched. All personnel, report in to your department heads at once. He has beenn severrely injurred. I need immmediate help." Jonas instructed her and Jon Nayati to accompany Tom to Deck 2. He further added that Jon and Lt Carrow search for the Captain and ambassador. Tom smiled and said "Welcome Aboard" and turned back to the door. The trio finally opened the door to the turbo lift shaft and began to head down. Jon must have sensed how the three felt about being in the shaft and what might happened should the lift re-activate. Jon suggested "Lt Jackson, how about when we get to the next deck and exit the shaft? If the turbo lift is reactivated, it presence could terminate our chances of successes". Tom actually chuckled at that. "A most wise suggestion Jon. We are going to do exactly that. I hope no desire to get squashed either" T.J. added. (posted by: Bill West) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 2, Corridor - CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati - 2036) After exited the stalled turbolift on Deck 2 he and both of his superior officers had encountered Yeoman Denise Lebranski and Lt. Mister Nayati and Lieutenant Carrow are to attempt to locate Captain Sash and Ambassador Nolan - last known to be somewhere on Deck 5." After a moment both yeoman responded quickly. Yeoman Miller said, "Well count me in Lieutenant. I don't claim to be an expert in system repair, but I will help you however I possibly can." For a simple yeoman, Lebranski offered what seemed like an excellent suggestion. "Shouldn't a telepath go with each team? I was just thinking.. easier to find the people.." Lebranski's voice trailed off as she seemed to realize she was making suggestion to four officers that totally outranked her. At that point Lt. Carrow cut in as if on cue, "I can't sense the Captain. You're a lot more familiar with him and the Ambassador. Can you?" Carrow asked, looking at Jon as she declared emphatically. "I haven't been inside either Captain Sash's or Ambassador Nolan's mind telepathically," Jon replied. "But I've been around Captain Sash for many months now and have been in fairly close proximity to Ambassador Nolan since he came on board. I'm confident that I have a fairly good chance of registering their psychic signatures if I can I get close enough to their current location." (Reply Tom Jackson, Ardena Carrow, Jason Miller, Denise Lebranski, Any) Jon paused momentarily and then continued quickly. "Even severely injured persons usually don't lose possession of their personal identities, so getting in telepathic touch with any aware, living mind should allow me to learn the name of the person I am in contact with, whether it be Captain Sash, Ambassador Nolan or anyone else for that matter. The more in pain a given individual is the less factual information I will be able to get from them. The same parameters would apply to the captain, the ambassador or another injured mind I'm able to find on Deck 5. Hopefully," Jon concluded, almost tremulously, "I'll be able to find both our people before its too late for either one." (Reply Tom Jackson, Ardena Carrow, Jason Miller, Denise Lebranski, Any) "Maybe Jon could try and find the Captain and Tom and I will go help the security chief? I can probably hold my breath the longest, even if I can't fix a relay." Jon was acutely aware of the tremendously military deference Lt. Carrow had just given him. "Thank you, Sir," Jon said, under his breath. "Your half-Vulcan strength might also be a real asset to Mr. Jackson's rescue efforts, Lt. Carrow," Jon volunteered his input much louder. "By a long shot." It was amazing how fast they fell back to the "ancient" paths when technology failed. Ardena could only wonder what would find the Captain, the Ambassador and other survivors first.. the machine or the sentient. "Thank you, Sir," Jon said, under his breath. "Your half-Vulcan strength might also be a real asset to Mr. Jackson's rescue efforts, Lt. Carrow," Jon volunteered his input much louder. "I'll happily abide by whatever you and Mr. Jackson order, Lieutenant." Ardena wrinkled her nose, "Ardena, please." She didn't know how much strength she could offer. Her musculatory structure took after her mother. She was probably as strong as a strong human male. The problem was that no signal or data was being received by it, and Jonas put it down to the events on deck 5 being responsible. “It appears that the majority of the core circuitry is actually still intact. Are you finding that’s the same with your stations?” Jonas asked to any nearby officers to him on the bridge. “Commander Lemar, I have indications that our computer core and our secondary back up has suffered little damage as well as the transporter system. I have diverted more power to our shields and they are at 100% with compensations for the damaged decks from surrounding shield emitters.” Maraht replied in his usual metallic tones. Jonas was pleasantly surprised at what the OPS lieutenant had accomplished. “Well done Lieutenant. Glad to hear we’re not complete isolated up here.” Jonas turned to ask Lieutenant Ammon how she was getting on with access to ships sensors when he heard a sound coming from the OPS console, like a distorted signal of some sort. He turned back and listened carefully and managed to make out a voice. =^=Shuttle bay One to the Bridge. =^= Maraht appeared startled at first, but answered right away with, “I am happy to pick up your signal Shuttlebay 1. This is Chief OPS Lt. Maraht. To whom am I speaking?” Jonas was pleased to hear that it was in fact Crewman Walker who had managed to establish communication with them, somehow routing signals through a Runabout in the shuttle bay to the rest of the ship. ~Finally~ thought Jonas starting to walk closer to the OPS station. “Engineer Walker, that is creative and clever. The Bridge has been cut off and our turbolift doesn't work. Our internal sensors are still offline. Can you give us a status report from down there?” Maraht responded, seemingly as curious as Jonas, as to what the condition of the rest of the ship was. =^= Well, lieutenant, I haven't worked out data transfer yet, and I'm not able to monitor the ship's condition from my current location. However, from what I saw the Phlegathon and Acheron portions of the ship seem to be unaffected by whatever happened. Someone activated the red alert, so the ship is now at or going to battle stations. =^= “Good,” muttered Jonas to himself, glad that someone had had the sense to put the rest of the ship on high alert. There was just a short pause and the engineering continued to speak. =^= I've arranged for communications, just use your commbadge, you should be able to talk to anyone on the ship, and they should be able to talk back. If you have anything that I need to do, just say the word, myself and my limited staff are at your disposal =^= (reply: Maraht) As Maraht finished his conversation with Walker, Jonas cleared his throat and said, “Here goes.” With a sharp tap to his commbadge he said, “Bridge to Engineering, please respond.” (reply: any in Engineering) A wash of relief came over Jonas, so please that he could finally contact Engineering. “What’s the ships status? He wanted to ask how the chief had been incapacitated, how the ACEO had been killed, but there were many that perhaps really didn’t need to hear those answers – those that might be adversely affected by such news. Right now, he needed everyone at the top of their game. =^= Contact sickbay and see if they can’t get a team to you. What about transporters, , are you able to do a site-to-site transport?” (reply: Kusto) “Well, keep my updated on your progress, bridge out.” Jonas turned to Lieutenant Ammon, and look of concern on his face. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2045) Finishing his brief discussion with Engineering, Jonas was satisfied that they were taking all the necessary steps to get control of their situation. With that out of the way, Jonas felt he needed to try and speak to the officers that would still be in the dark about what was going on. With another tap to his commbadge, he wondered if the temporary routing of the comm. signals would be able to handle such a widespread communication, but he took the risk anyway. “This is Commander Lemar to all personnel on Decks 1 through 9. Lemar out.” Jonas then turned to Maraht, “Lieutenant, I want you to monitor the internal communications to and from the upper decks. Use the traffic to prioritise the deployment of our teams for both damage control and medical.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - CTAC Lt. Ammon Ranae - 2045) The situation was improving. Communications had been semi-restored thanks to an ingenius Engineer Walker, the engines were intact, power core and other vital systems were functioning, and engineering was attempting to reestablish power to the bridge. However there was also bad news, Norm was injured and the ACEO was dead. Ranae was still mentally in contact with Baylon but apart from the occassional brief telepathic enquiry about his status, she was still busily trying to fix her scanners. She heard Cdr. Lemar tell the engineer who was giving the report to contact sickbay and get a team to engineering. =^= ....What about transporters, are you able to do a site-to-site transport?" Lemar asked. (reply: Kusto) "Well, keep my updated on your progress, bridge out." The FO replied and cut the communication. Looking over to him, she found herself gazing into his eyes. He looked concerned and tired. ~Probably worried about his people, wondering how many more have been hurt or killed.~ She thought, giving him (what she hoped was) an encouraging smile. He was a good FO, one of the best she'd known, he was efficient, knowledgable and he sincerely cared about his crew and ship. Her respect for him had grown in the short time she'd served under his command. ~Don't worry, Sir, everything will be alright.~ She tried to convey to him with a slight nod. Perhaps a little good news would bolster his spirits. "I have the short range scanners working, Sir, but the long range scanner will require more professional attention, they are intermittent." (posted by Sal) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Between Decks 4 & 5, Access Hatch – ACMO Dr. Wendy Kildare – 2046) “I don’t think it’s much further Ensign,” Wendy called down to the new officer that she had unexpectedly drafted into her medical team. “Just a few more metres and I think that’s it.” With that, shut put her torch back between her teeth and continued to climb. The small group had been climbing for what seemed like an age. It didn’t make things easier that they were walking in relative darkness. It seemed that in the Jefferies tubes and access hatches, emergency power was not exactly a priority, so with a torch in her mouth for the most part she climbed the rungs one by one. (reply: McKenzie) Wendy came to the next hatch and stopped on the rungs. Pulling the torch out of her mouth and balancing it on a nearby ledge to light her way, she reached up to the access keypad. Pressing a short combination of buttons, a green light flashed and the hatch opened about an inch. “Oh great!” she said with a sigh as she braced herself against the walls of the access tube and pushed her fingers through the crack. Once both hands were in she pulled with all her might to force the hatch open, almost losing her balance but not quite, and soon the hatch was open wide enough for her to climb out of the Jeffries tube and into the access module. Once standing, she held out a hand to help up Ensign McKenzie, and then the nurse the followed close behind him. (reply: McKenzie) As Wendy turned to open the hatch and allow them access to the corridors beyond, she froze in her actions as a voice sounded from all three of their comm. badges. =^= This is Commander Lemar to all personnel on Decks 1 through 9. Communications have been temporarily restored to the Hades section and both damage control and medical teams are being dispatched. All personnel, report in to your department heads at once. Lemar out. =^= Wendy visibly brightened up. ~Oh my god! He’s OK~ She resisted the urge to open a comm. channel and tell him how glad she was that he was alive and kicking, but she knew that professionalism was key, especially during a ship full alert. So instead, she turned to the access panel and tapped in her code. Moments later the hatch opened and Wendy jumped out into the corridor. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 5, Near to VIP Quarters – SO Lieutenant Tarus Daban – 2046) Tarus Daban slowly down the corridor with his weapon raised, half expecting someone to jump out at him at any moment. He didn’t think it was likely, given that this area had been close to incineration not long ago. If there was anyone here before, they would be long gone before there was any risk of danger. Still, Daban wanted to keep his guard up, and as such, so did the rest of his strike team. The lights seemed to be out in this entire section, although the damage appeared to be minimal. There was a dark scarring against the ordinarily white bulkhead, as if an intense heat had threatened it from the inside. Keeping his concerns to himself, Tarus had continued on and rounded the next corner where he was forced to stop in his tracks. Before him was a large area of debris, made up from what appeared to be broken conduits and bulkheads. Beyond that, Daban could make out the faint flickering of an emergency forcefield, and beyond that the blackness of space. Before he had chance to act further, the comm. badges sounded from all of his team. =^= This is Commander Lemar to all personnel on Decks 1 through 9. Communications have been temporarily restored to the Hades section and both damage control and medical teams are being dispatched. All personnel, report in to your department heads at once. Lemar out. =^= ~Communications are back. That makes things a little easier.~ Instantly Daban moved to tap his comm. badge, “Lieutenant Tarus to Lieutenant Trinin.” (reply: Trinin) “My strike team are currently searching for the delegation. I’m heading to the VIP quarters right now, while another team is heading to search Ten Forward. What’s your status?” Tarus delivered his report very briefly. There was much to do and no doubt the security chief would have an influx of reports very soon. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 2046) No sooner had Jonas put out the shipwide call, messages were starting to come in. Some for Lieutenant Ammon, from other tactical officers onboard, and also Lieutenant Maraht as other members of the OPS team began to report on their location and situation. =^= R'Serrrot to Lemarr, I have found Captain Sash on deck five. He has beenn severrely injurred. I need immmediate help. =^= Jonas was surprised to hear from the Catian doctor, and the news he carried did not make him feel any easier about their situation. With a quick tap to his chest he replied, “Standby Doctor. Transporters are offline, but we’ll have a team to your location as soon as possible.” (reply: R’Serrot IYW) “Maraht, tell me what area that comm. signal came from on deck 5.” Jonas felt rushed, as if he needed to act faster – hell, he needed to be there to help the Captain personally. He was a doctor and a friend to the man. He needed to get off this bridge, but here was his place, and for now he had undertaken that responsibility. “Using comm. traffic, can you track any other teams in that area?” (reply: Maraht) As Maraht gave him two teams to choose from Jonas tapped his comm. badge and said, “Bridge to Counsellor Nayati and Lieutenant Tarus. Doctor R’Serrot is in section 6 on deck 5. He has located the Captain and requires your immediate assistance. I want you there now.” =^= Aye sir, on our way =^= came a monotone response from the security lieutenant. No doubt his mind was entirely focused on the task. (reply: Nayati) Exhaling slowly, Jonas was uncertain what he could do that could take his mind off the Captain. Slowly, he settled back into the command chair to read a number of the incoming damage reports that were coming over the temporarily restored comm. system. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 5, Corridor - Yeoman Denise Lebranski - 2047) Denise had been ignoring much other than focusing to getting where the Captain was last seen and heard from. Climbing out of the wall, she tucked the mask of the breather back into her belt pouch. It looked like the fields were holding atmosphere fine in this section. It didn't take much looking to find the doctor and his patient. "Son of a bitch!" Denise growled as she lurched over the debris to help the Caitain. "If you die, I'm changing your name to Delilah on all forms." She told the unconscious Captain. "How are we moving him?" She asked. No way they could get a lock on with all this debris and shifting energy fields. (Reply R'Serrot, etc) Denise focused inward for half a second, "There's an emergency kit by the secondary turbolift shaft, there should be a sling there." Not an ideal answer, the technological gurney had the gizmos of the 25th century to their benefit, but the marines refused to use them for a multitude of reasons. What if the .. whatever it was? .. had fried the circuitry? (Reply R'Serrot, etc) Denise rocked to her feet, giving the Captain a last glare for being foolish enough to go and get his life in danger, she scrambled to where the turbolift door. As she got closer to the interior of the ship, the damage was less. Someone had definitely planned the charge to cause maximum damage on the way out to space. She managed to pry open the emergency center and dragged out the stretcher. She gave it to a security crewman who had appeared to carry back. As much as she hated to admit it, he was taller, stronger and more suited. SHE had stocked the med centers, she knew what was in there and had a vague idea of what R'Serrot would want. ~Probably a splint for his tail, I wonder if he's noticed the tip is broken yet?~ Grabbing up the various supplies she made her way back to where the doctor was working. Seeing she was superfluous she decided it was probably a good time to look for others under this mess. Boy, did it smell bad. "Dalilah you hear me?" she hissed at the Captain as she moved off to break her nails in the cause. Now, how to get one of those nice young men with big muscles to move stuff for her at her wave and glance. (Posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 7, Corridor - Lieutenant Ardena Carrow - 2047) By the time they came out of the Jeffrey Tubes, Ardena was wishing she'd managed to weasel her way into the shorter climb to deck 5. Or that she was still young enough to just put her feet on the outside of the ladder and slide down. Boy, she wouldn't have to do PT for a week the way the day was going. Muscles were aching from the unaccustomed exercise and use. ~I miss my plush chair.~ "Which way?" She asked the two gentleman. Ardena swore the next thing she was doing was memorizing the schematics of the ship! (Reply) Deck 7 seemed cold, and had no sign of power other than flickering shields. It seemed they weren't in sequence properly and weren't holding atmosphere as well as they should be. Atmosphere was still incoming, so unlikely anyone would die here, but no one would be comfortable. Ardena was more than happy to let Tom play with the force fields so they could get through to the Chief of Security - or so she could get to them. She was more interested in scanning the debris for other personnel and power fluctuations. They wouldn't be much help to anyone if they got taken out by a second fluctuation, or explosion, or whatever it had been. ~Who am I kidding? Bomb in the plasma lines.~ She had no proof, but.. The radiation was playing havoc with her ability to detect much with the tricorder, and her unreliable gifts had shut down again. Not that they were good for much but receiving from the gifted anyway without a touch or close familiarity. ~I miss T'Vhor.~ She thought with a sigh. She almost screamed into the darkness when a hand brushed against her boot. Someone's body seemed to be under half the bulkhead. "Guys! Over here!" How did you call a motley team anyway? 'Oi!!'? "I have someone alive!" And hopefully they'd stay that way! (posted by Lorna) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Between Decks 4 & 5, Access Hatch - ACSO Ensign Kenneth McKenzie - 2048) "I don't think it's much further Ensign. Just a few more metres and I think that's it." said Doctor Kildare as she climbed the ladder. "I hope so." Kenny replied. He wanted to say more, about how he was feeling, but he didn't know what to say, or if it would help. He concluded that it would not, most likely. Like the Doctor, he had a torch in his mouth. He was a little annoyed. He thought the Federation was still using those torches you wore on your arms. He was wrong, it seemed. And it was difficult to climb while also holding a medical case, but he managed. What a day this had been, and he was on the ship no more than an hour. Already, he was trying to save the lives of people he did not even know. He wondered what had happened; was the ship sabotaged? Where they under attack? He sighed; He was just being paranoid. Think like the Vulcans would, he told himself. Logic dictates that if there was another explosion as such, it would have happened by now. As they came to a door, Kenny heard the bleeping as Doctor Kildare typed in the code to open the door, but it answered with a mocking negative tone. "Oh, great!" Wendy said. Kenny saw that she was using her weight to force the door open. It budged after a while. She helped him up. As he took the torch out of his mouth and placed it in his left hand, he placed the medical case on the floor and took out his tricorder in his right. As the COMM came from the Commander, Kenny began to set his tricorder to sense body heat and heart beats. "I take it you know how to modify the tricorders to search out heartbeats and life signs?" He turned to her and nodded. "Already done, Ma'am." As the lights were out, the corridor was only lit by the Red Alert lights. He took the medical kit and slid it down to his left wrist, and held the torch with his left hand and his tricorder in his right. He turned to Wendy. "I'm also picking up the life signs, Doctors. Let’s go." Kenny half-ran down the corridor. He didn't want to run too fast in case he tripped on something he didn't see. So far, the corridor was intact for the most part, apart from the lights being out. What was odd was the fact they did not encounter anyone else as they walked down. Suddenly; Kenny's tricorder bleeped rapidly as they changed direction. "I'm detecting two individual body heat signatures up ahead..." He turned to face Wendy. "But only one life sign." The three of them understood the need for urgency and ran to the sighs. They were on their way to the life signs that Doctor Kildare read the first time, so they would just get to these ones first. As they turned the corridor, Kenny saw a sight he would never forget; two white women wearing yellow lay beside an open panel. One was Bajoran, the other, Human. The Bajoran lay next to the panel. Her life signs where fluctuating, but there. The Human lay against the corridor wall opposite the panel. There was only faint body heat coming from her. As Kenny got closer to the Bajoran. He could hear her breathe and moan. Kenny knelt down, opened his tricorder and scanned her. She had some minor plasma burns to her face, but she seemed alright. He turned to the other Nurse and nodded, and the Nurse walked over and treated the Bajoran. Kenny turned to the Human and almost screamed at the sight of her; her face and upper chest was so badly burned, that there was no skin on her. Just charred muscle and bone. He stood there, looking at her with fear. She looked like she had been burnt alive. It took him a few moments to go over to her and opened his tricorder, but he knew that it was too late. The mono-tone of the scanner not only told him that, but that the heat from her was not body heat; it was the charred body itself. He closed it so the sound stopped. But it didn’t go away. He turned to Doctor Kildare and shook his head. Not really to confirm her death, but really to have an excuse to look away. He walked over to Doctor Kildare and whispered. He tried his best to stay calm, but he knew he could not. "She...I think her head was inside the panel when it...exploded. I'm...surprised that her upper body is...still there." He closed his eyes, clenched his fist and breathed in. He had never seen such a sight before in his life. He could not rid himself of the image. He just wanted to scream and cry and beat the wall, but he knew that would get him nowhere right now. There were people that needed him. He opened his eyes and saw Doctor Kildare looking at him. Tears flooded his eyes, but he made no sound. He could not look at her like that. He was embarrassed. He turned away from her, opened his tricorder and scanned the Bajoran woman, just to have something to do. He hoped that the Doctor and the Nurse where not thinking he was being stupid. His second scan of the Bajoran woman told him the same thing as before. He tried to think of what to do about her, but he could not concentrate. He closed the tricorder; he didn't know what to do. He could not rid himself of the image of other woman. He stood up, and braced himself against the wall as he was physically sick. He could not stop crying... (Posted by Gavin Work) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 5, Corridor – ACMO Dr. Wendy Kildare – 2049) As the rest of her team assembled in the corridor she turned to McKenzie, “I take it you know how to modify the tricorders to search out heartbeats and lifesigns?” She was already making adjustments to her tricorder even as she spoke. The nearby nurse was also doing the same. (reply: McKenzie) Wendy looked around and couldn’t see a lot in the way of damage. ~Must be on the other side of the saucer~ thought Wendy as she wondered which route they should take. She looked at her tricorder very briefly and noticed a number of healthy lifesigns in a nearby room to the left. “Seems like the most obvious place to start,” she said, starting down the corridor. Just then, her comm. badge went off again. =^= Dr. Trommashere to Dr. Kildare. What's your location? =^= “Angeni?” said Wendy under her breath, quite startled to hear from the Chief Medic. “I’m on Deck 5, with a team heading toward the worst of the damage. I have another team on the opposite side of the saucer and we’re working our way across the entire deck, looking for casualties.” =^= Alright. Let me know the bridge status. I'm taking a crew and we're going to start on the Bridge. You'll know where to find me if you need anything. =^= “Angeni, you can’t!” Wendy protested. “You’re in no condition to leave sickbay!” Wendy didn’t receive any response and it was clear that the comm. channel had already been closed. ~I do hope she doesn’t make things worse~ thought Wendy, ever so concerned about the heart of Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere. With a small sigh of reluctance, she turned back to Ensign McKenzie, “Lead the way Ensign. Lets see if we can’t doing some healin’.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 4, Saucer Engineering – Engineer Debbie Weston – 2059) As Debbie and her small team arrived at the engineering area of the saucer section, she was met with a sealed door. All over the doors were ‘Private’ and ‘Emergency Access Only’, and it was clear to Debbie that this area was not very often used. ~Not since the way anyway~ thought Debbie, knowing that the Hades very rarely spent time as one during the final battle. Using an access code that she had previously acquired from Matt, the now ex-ACEO, she managed to get the doors open. “Right,” said Debbie, shining a torch around the darkened engineering section. “Alex, start work on the core.” She looked around and was glad to note that there was little damage in this area. “Dana, give him a hand.” She added as she noticed at least one panel had actually been blown off. As she approached it she said, “I’m going to work on bypassing the damaging manifolds linking Deck 5 to the rest of the circuit.” “Alright Debs, I’m on it!” said Travis, giving Alex Turner a nudge and leading him in the right direction. As Debbie looked, she could see that a lot of the circuitry behind the exposed panel was fused, but she could see a fix that might just work. So she lay down her kit and took out her sonic welder and set to work. ~EPS router one and two~ she thought to herself, noticing where an overload had caused damage to the isolinear chips. It took her only a few minutes to remove the old chips and replace them, and soon the circuit board was working as close to normal as possible. ~Right, now to bybass the mangled mess that is Deck 5~ and then she found a ladder and began to move down to the secondary level. Meanwhile, Turner and Travis had been hard at work. They had managed to locate the Hades warp core systems and get to bringing everything to a working order. “I’m bringing the secondary core online,” started Turner, moving towards what appeared to be a mini version of the main warp core. It was currently grey and dim, no reaction taking place inside at all. “Activating reaction chamber and firing up the intermix ratios,” called out Travis, starting the systems that would feed the matter and antimatter into the core itself. In an instant, the dark core began to glow neon blue, and what had moments ago been a grey misted stillness, was now a cloud of swirling blue and white. It took almost a full ten minutes to bring all the secondary core systems online and have them warmed up and in a position to function as one. Debbie, down on the lower levels had pulled off about 6 different panels to locate the three junctions that she needed. She couldn’t find a way to bypass the conduits by any normal means, so instead she had located a number of manual conduits from storage and was in the process of connecting them across the whole deck. “We’re ready to begin the final sequence here Debbie,” called out Travis from above. She didn’t want to go ahead and completely fire up the core before Debbie was finished. If they caused another short, or worse, some kind of feedback, they were in no condition to handle it well. “Just one sec,” shouted Debbie, pulling the final conduit and linking it to the main conduit across the deck. Ensuring that the safeties were active and that she had cut of the supply down the main conduit, she seemed pleased with her efforts and stood back. “I think I’ve managed to isolate the deck 5 relays and bypass them entirely. When we fire this baby up we’ll be able to light up the decks without any problems...” She paused and began to make her way up to the upper level again. “...well, I think so anyway!” “You know if we get this wrong...” started Travis. “Don’t!” said Turner, desperate for Dana not to jinx anything. “Hey, have a little faith will ya?” Debbie said, pulling herself back up and peering down at her handy work. ~It would never pass any sort of Starfleet inspection. A good job we’re far from home!~ and with that she turned and beckoned for Dana to continue, “Well...what are you waiting for?” Travis looked really uncertain, but as Debbie gave her a glare, she looked down to the console, then closed her eyes and pressed the button to release the fuel into the reaction chamber. The core sparked to life in an instant, the cloudy swirls instantly beginning to swirl at an increased rate. There was a throbbing as power was created and shunted into the nearby power conduits, then a few seconds later, the lights in the engineering section began to come on, slowly but surely. One by one at first, and then in a final rush, every nook and cranny was flooded with light. As power continued to throb from the core, Debbie looked at the lower section, watching as her make-shift bypass was awash with yellow lights. She could see pulses of energy throbbing through the temporary conduit, and despite a few sparks and pops and the seems, it appeared to be holding well enough to transfer power from one end to another. Travis and Turner began to laugh, so overjoyed at their success that they held each other in an embrace. Debbie gave them both a look and simply said, “Get a room you two...” and turned to the nearest console and set back to work at finishing what they came here for. “Accessing tertiary computer routers and bring them online now. That should return computer access o the primary core across the whole ship.” With her task finally complete she decided to try out her new repairs by attempting to access the computer with voice control. “Computer,” she started, then paused for an acknowledgement. [Chirp] With a grin she looked back to Travis and Turner, then shot them a look as if to say, ‘Did you ever doubt me?’ “Open a channel to the bridge,” she asked, and she noted the computer carrying out her command via a visual representation on her diagnostic screen. “Weston here sirs. It seems I really am this good, and power has been restored to the rest of the ship, together with communications, life support, and the majority of computer access.” =^= Weston? Whatever you did, I can’t thank you enough. Well done crewman! =^= The voice of Commander Lemar seems overjoyed to hear the news over the comm. system. No doubt he had a tonne of command-type things he could now get to, thanks to the efforts of Debbie and her two team mates. “Oh sir, just doing my job. If you need anything else, just holler!” Debbie looked smug. She didn’t set out to impress the command staff, but if she managed it while she did her job then all the better for it. You never know, she might get some extended annual leave for this. (reply: Lemar) “Weston to Main Engineering. Guess who fixed our little power problem?” she said, equally as smug as before. ~Hell, may as well milk it!~ she thought as she waited for the response from Engineering.
